Bring Shingo Sato's pattern innovation to your campus.
Intensive, hands-on Transformational Reconstruction (TR) masterclasses for fashion students, faculty, and design professionals with basic sewing skills. Coordinated across India by Vidya Fashion Academy.
From Flat Pattern to Sculptural Form
Explore how Transformational Reconstruction deconstructs conventional darts into organic 3D volumes.

Flat Pattern Deconstruction
In standard pattern cutting, darts fold excess fabric into straight geometric points. In TR, Master Shingo Sato cuts organic, asymmetrical lines across the pattern, redistributing volume without conventional dart seams.
Participants physically execute this exact sequence in the workshop lab, mastering origami folding and continuous curved seams under Shingo Sato’s direct instruction.
Stage 01: Flat Pattern Deconstruction
Darts are eliminated and replaced by dynamic slash-and-spread curves.
In standard pattern cutting, darts fold excess fabric into straight geometric points. In TR, Master Shingo Sato cuts organic, asymmetrical lines across the pattern, redistributing volume without conventional dart seams.
Stage 02: 3D Muslin Toile Assembly
Pieces are stitched or pinned together in plain calico directly on the mannequin.
As the curved pieces are joined, the fabric naturally twists and arches away from the form, generating sculptural relief, structural volume, and contoured fit without padding.
Stage 03: Sculptural Finished Garment
The final garment exhibits continuous architectural form and movement.
The finished silhouette stands as wearable architecture. Students and faculty experience first-hand how 2D textile physics translate into 3D geometric art.
Why Host Shingo Sato at Your Institution?
An intensive masterclass that provides practical construction breakthroughs for faculty and advanced students.
Beyond Textbook Darts
Standard curriculums teach straight dart rotation. TR teaches students to see darts as continuous fluid cut lines, empowering them to engineer sculptural garments without commercial constraints.
Supervised Hands-On Execution
Not a spectator lecture. Every attendee brings pre-cut calico to their machine and executes the exercises with hands-on corrections from both Master Shingo Sato and Vidya Vivek.
Faculty Development Value
Pattern-making professors and garment construction lecturers gain fresh pedagogical exercises to enrich their department's ongoing design syllabus for semesters to come.
Personalized Signed Certificates
Every participating student and faculty member receives an official workshop completion certificate signed personally by Master Shingo Sato.
Shingo Sato
Founder of Transformational Reconstruction (TR Cutting)
Based in Milan and Tokyo, Master Shingo Sato is globally recognized for revolutionizing pattern engineering. His technique bridges traditional Japanese origami folding physics with European haute couture draping, teaching masterclasses at premier design institutions worldwide.
Vidya Vivek
Founder, Vidya Fashion Academy · Master TR Instructor
Certified by Shingo Sato in 2014, Vidya Vivek has coordinated his educational engagements across India for over a decade. In every campus workshop, Vidya provides on-the-floor instruction, bilingual technical clarity, and ensures smooth lab operations alongside Shingo.

Workshop Module Alternatives
Choose a tailored focus for your institution. Modules are alternative options agreed upon in your hosting proposal.
Origami Pattern Technique
Translating geometric paper folding principles directly into textiles to generate architectural relief, facets, and 3D folding facets.
Transformational Reconstruction (TR)
Eliminating standard seamlines and dart systems to draft organic curves, box pleats, spiral cuts, and sculpted body volumes.
Sculptural TR Corset Making
Architectural waist cinching, integrated spiral seams, and contour boning channels integrated into asymmetrical patterns.
Origami Trousers & Dynamic Draping
Three-dimensional faceted leg cutting that rethinks the inseam and side seam, allowing structural draping that moves with the human body.
1-Day & 2-Day Institutional Hosting Formats
Fixed daily institutional workshop fee. The host institution decides whether to fund the workshop or manage internal student participation.

Host Institution FAQs
Is there a fixed maximum participant cap?
VFA does not set an arbitrary 30-person cap. Practical feasibility depends entirely on your campus sewing lab space, number of working machines, and mannequins. In your enquiry, specify your expected headcount so we can confirm suitability.
What prerequisites do participants need?
Participants (students or faculty) must have basic sewing machine control and familiarity with flat pattern pieces. TR is an advanced volumetric technique; beginners with zero sewing experience cannot keep pace with the exercises.
Does submitting this enquiry form reserve our dates?
No. Submitting this form initiates an availability discussion. Tour dates are allocated on a first-agreed basis across the 4–5 planned campus stops in January 2027 once a formal proposal is signed.
Are individual public tickets sold through this page?
No. This page is dedicated to institutional campus hosting. If you are an individual designer or student wishing to attend, contact our coordinator to register interest should a participating host open public seats.
Is there post-workshop follow-up included?
No post-workshop follow-up sessions are included in this institutional package. The teaching and certificate distribution occur on the scheduled workshop days.
